We believe poetry is an aphrodisiac, a meditation, and a lullaby." So reads, in part, Jeanine Payer's statement of philosophy. With her earliest designs in the late 80s, this sculptor/jeweler established a signature style that combines ancient and modern, art and craft, evocative words and precious metals. Wearing her poetry-inscribed creations imparts the secret thrill of a love letter, a message in a bottle, a picture tucked in a locket. It's that personal connection to her pieces that has enchanted women from New York (where they are featured at Barney's) to Hollywood (where Jessica Lange and Ellen DeGeneres are among her loyal fans). When she decided to open her own store, Jeanine chose a space at the base of the landmark San Francisco Phelan building that houses dozens of jewelry workshops, including her own. The jewel-box sized space with its lush red floor, creamy walls and lacquered steel cases is almost invisible amid the downtown bustle...a thrilling personal discovery, just like the treasures it contains.
