Amid the murmur of women's voices, punctuated by laughter and the tinkle of teaspoons swirled in china cups, you'll find a cozy sense of well-being at Lovejoy's Tea Room. Named for an antiques dealer in a series of novels by British author Jonathan Gash, Lovejoy's is furnished with a charming jumble of turned-leg tables and chairs, overstuffed couches and window seats padded with vintage pillows. The tea pots, cozies, cups and saucers are equally eclectic and, happily, they're all for sale, along with the tea itself. And such tea! Owners Muna Nash and Gillian Briley will guide you through the array of exquisite teas and tisanes, including the Tea Room Blend (a customer favorite). Food selections range from light-as-mist tea sandwiches to fluffy scones with dollops of Devon cream with strawberry preserves, to hearty shepherd's pie. It's all delicious, and, most importantly, Lovejoy's serves it up without a single drop of pretentiousness.
