There was a time when cruelty-free fashion was a contradiction in terms. Not anymore. Style-conscious folks, whether vegan (those who avoid products made from animals) or not, will find much to love at Otsu. Yvonne Chen and Jeremy Crown set up shop in 2002 with an eclectic mix of cruelty-free goods–ranging from shoes and accessories to comix to music to art–arrayed in a space that feels like a living room. They found the perfect name for their boutique in an old Japanese word that means stylish, quaint, spicy, witty, tasty. Drop in for an ever-changing selection including many one-of-a-kind handmade items, and an exclusive artist t-shirt series. One of the very few vegan storefronts in the country, Otsu proves that you can tread softly on the Earth and still wear great shoes. A nice selection of products is also available online at www.veganmart.com.
