Amid the roving restaurant goers and neon flash of North Beach, a steel door marks the entrance to the intimate, softly lit cocoon called Rosewood. The second venture from Jon Gasparini and Greg Lindgren, whose nearby 15 Romolo attracts capacity crowds nightly, Rosewood mixes classic 20th century design with the latest in cocktail chic. Unique, elegant fixtures, including vintage Austrian leather barstools and orb-shaped Italian ceramic speakers that float above the room, are surrounded by walls richly paneled in Bolivian rosewood. In one corner is a limestone-enclosed DJ station and in the back you'll find a VIP room and an indoor-outdoor lounge that incorporates a screening room for independent films. "Rosewood manages to make going out intriguing again," says San Francisco's SOMA Magazine. Clearly others agree: "The space is cozy, so arrive early," caution Gasparini and Lindgren. Then order a Lemon Chiffon and sink into one of the sleek leather sofas. Your night is just beginning.
