Part of the pleasure of strolling through SwallowTail is the thrill of surprise. It's not just Sheri Sheridan's ever-changing gathering of objects from the past and present that's intriguing, it's also her way of creating unexpected juxtapositions within the airy, atrium-like setting. You might find old enameled gas station numbers leaning beside architectural fragments, or industrial steel furniture supporting Rococo finds from Paris. Treasures make their way from every nook, cranny, market and estate sale, and the integrity of the object trumps brand or provenance. No wonder the city's stylists come here to score props for photo shoots and commercials, and artists and designers come in simply for inspiration. Two of Sheridan's latest ventures include a second location in Oakland, and a soon-to-open antiques collective–Noon–on Market Street. And, when she's not finding unusual items for people's homes, Sherri is finding good homes for adorable dogs through Smiley Dog Rescue, an East Bay organization she supports.
