Like most epic romances, the Threshold story begins with passion and pursuit. Interior designer Kendall Wilkinson's deep love of French antiques led to countless hours combing flea markets and estates from Paris to Provence seeking just the right pieces for her clients' homes. Her remarkable finds inevitably created a clamor for more, so in 2001 she decided to open the airy, light-washed emporium in Presidio Heights called Threshold. A combination shop and design studio, Threshold is filled with 18th and 19th-century furnishings, mostly French, and a global trove of new items ranging from objets d'art and coffee table books to pillow cases and toiletries. What you won't find there are furnishings too precious or too fussy for real life. Wilkinson favors antiques rich in character and reflective of lives well-lived, a point of view that's been dubbed, aptly, "approachable French."
